 Activities at KARELE

Based at Rockrose Equestrian, East Lothian

KARELE offers a wide range of Activities in East Lothian with equine-facilitated activities and Learning to suit all ages and abilities. Our Saddle Club sessions cover essential equine skills, grooming, stable management, tacking up, riding and theory practice. We also offer part-share and Supported part-share horses for more experienced riders.

Our activities are also offered to adults, check out our coffee mornings.

Our activities

New for 2023

Saddle club 

Ages 5 upwards

Saddle Club is open to all aged 5+. We teach everything from grooming, general horse care, stable management and riding. We support all our saddle club participants to set and achieve personal goals. Enjoy fun horse quizzes and games, a fun and interactive 2 hr activity.

Junior Saddle Club

Ages 3 - 5

For our younger horse enthusiasts, the Junior Saddle Club is a perfect 1.5 hours activity to learn about horses. Including grooming, horse riding and a mini coaching session. Snack and drink provided. This is an ongoing activity throughout the year.

Breathing Spaces (Equine Facilitated Activity for Mental Health)

Aged 5+

& Adults

Our Breathing Spaces Sessions are open to children, young people and adults who may be experiencing mental and physical health issues and emotional well-being  problems . Breathing Space is tailored to each individual in a reflective, supportive and meaningful way. Trust, confidence and self-esteem begin to develop and grow in this nurturing and safe place. Sessions include working in a triad with a horse and includes time to groom and bond and develop trust with the horse., leading your horse whilst enjoying the countryside develops cooperation and confidence building. Other activities are built with participant preference and choices. This starts of as a 8 week hourly session which can continue.

Positive Pathways ( Equine Facilitated Activity for Self Development)

Aged 12+

Positive Pathways is open to all aged 12+  who are looking for a non- judgemental, empathetic and supporting environment to help build on individual strengths and develop new skills through Equine Facilitated Metaphorical Learning. Sessions will include building resilence, communication skills, team work, building trust and boundaries and building confidence and self esteem. This is an 8 week programme which can continue depending on individual requirements and interest.

Supported Part Share

Age 11+ and Adults

depending on ability

Just like having your own pony with support from one of our Facilitators. Learn all about grooming, tacking up and general horse care. Coaching riding lesson followed by mini hack. Feeding your pony and turnout. Snack and drink provided. Lots of fun and a richness of learning.

Ride Away- Hacks

Ages 5+ 

and Adults

come along and enjoy a 1 hr Ride Away Hack in our lovely countryside. Enjoy time with your horse/pony to groom before tacking up . End with a refreshment and feedback.

Adult Coffee Mornings

Adults 

OPEN TO ADULTS WHO HAVE TAKEN A BREAK FROM ALL THINGS EQUINE BUT ARE LOOKING TO GET BACK INTO HORSES OR IF YOU HAVE NO EXPERIENCE BUT WOULD LIKE TO LEARN. GREAT WAY TO MAKE NEW HORSEY FRIENDS AND GAIN EXPERIENCES. INCLUDES TIME WITH THE HORSES, RIDING AND MUCH MORE. 

Volunteer

KARELE is a registered Scottish charity offering equine-assisted therapy and learning to everyone. We offer a flexible volunteer programme at KARELE - get involved, spend time with the horses you love and contribute to a great cause.
